A Heartfelt Ode to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: A Journey Through Time
Poem: about the Prophet ﷺ peace be upon him
If I was there…
I sit reclining on my chair
and close my eyes as if I’m there
my sight is dark and hearing goes as I begin to see the rows
I’m in madina its afternoon
and hear the call, a soothing tune
The call to prayer from unbaked bricks on dusty ground, they bow and sit
and then I think am I with those
that sacrificed and Allah He chose?
the ones who gave their wealth and lives and tied a stone to feed the cries
The one’s whose hearts were purified and filled with hope for you and I
is that Umar and that Ali
and next to them Bilal the free
Ammar, Zubair, Uthman Ghani
Muaz , Abbas Ibn alwaleed
Siddiq stands up on his two feet
the second of two in the retreat
But wait if they are all around
Where is the one my Rabb has crowned?
I ask O Where is my Nabi?
my heart & soul please let me see
my heart begins to tremble fast
they “say that’s him, he just walked past”
My eyes r filled with tears of joy
and still I stand as I enjoy
at last i’ll meet Allah’s Habib
and feel his presence oh so qareeb
at last, my gaze falls on his hair
so dark and long as I just stare
Do I just walk through all the rows or watch and glare and not impose
his turban wrapped around his head and beard goes down like silky thread
the strands of hair against his skin so fair and smooth all free of sin
I take a breath and hold my tears
and tell myself what if he hears?
Remember how his wife would say why do you spend so long to pray
You stand all night and pray to Him Allah the one who raised your hymn
To her he said shall I not stay
a thankful slave till my last day?
Ya Rabb how do I praise the one
who you have called the chosen one?
The one you swore by the night
and sent to Makkah as a light
and Abraham asked you for him
and Son of Mary’s glad tiding
You raised him up with truth he spoke and trust he held within his cloak
And then to him, you gave your word and on to him Gibreel conferred
“Invite Quraysh, your closest kin,
tell them from Him did you begin
they’ll call you mad and try to hurt and slay your ones who did convert
stay strong and firm as I’m with you so long as you to me stay true”
Back in the mosque, I see him stand with all his followers, the blessed land
I find a space and get inline
What a place and what a time!
as he concludes he softly says
“Allah forgive us for our ways”
my eyes are filled and heart’s insane I jump the rows to ease my pain
Rasul Allah! I have no worth,
I’ve done great sins on Allah’s Earth
I only ask from you one thing:
make space for me below your wing
I couldn’t stop myself and cried
and wept so long as if I died
I fell unconscious on the floor
and when I woke they were no more
Sallallahu Alayhi wa sallam
