The Prohibition of Asking Questions of Things Which Do Not Concern a Person
What has come concerning the foods, 10th Lesson | Benefits from Muntaqaa Ibn Al-Jarood

Chapter the prohibition of asking questions of things which do not concern a person’
The point of benefit: It is not befitting for a person to ask concerning that which does not concern him.
The Hadith 882 – Ibn-ul Muqri’ and Mahmood bin Adam, they both said: Sufyan narrated to us, on the authority of Az-Zuhri, on the authority of ‘Aamir bin Sa’d, on the authority of his father, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ said: “Verily the greatest crime a Muslim can do to the Muslims is to ask about something which is not impermissible, so it becomes impermissible due to his asking about it.”
Men of the chain
Ibn-ul Muqri’: He is Muhammad bin ‘Abdillah bin Yazeed (Abu Yahya)
Mahmood bin Adam: He is al-Mirwazi
Sufyan: He is Ibn ‘Uyainah (Abu Muhammad al-Hilaalee)
On the authority of Az-Zuhri: He is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Shihaab (Abu Bakr)
‘Aamir bin Sa’d: He is Sa’d bin Abee Waqqaas
Sa’d bin Abee Waqqaas: He is the first to shoot an arrow in the cause of Allaah (from the arabs), he is from the people of Shura, he was made as such by ‘Umar bin al-Khattaab
The chain of the Hadith with the author is authentic, all it’s men are thiqqah (trustworthy)
Explanation of the Hadith
Hadith Sa’d bin Abee Waqqaas, may Allaah be pleased with him:”Verily the greatest crime a Muslim can do to the Muslims is to ask about something which is not impermissible, so it becomes impermissible due to his asking about it.”
This is during the era of revelation because there is nothing (that would become) impermissible after the era of revelation.
Benefit
The least people in asking questions are the companions of the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ to the extent that, they used to like when the Bedouins would come and ask the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ questions.
↪️ In the Hadith is the blameworthiness of asking in a way of burdening himself or to annoy and what there is no need for like the asking of the children of Israa’eel concerning the cow from question to question, and had they (just) slaughtered any cow and hit him (the carcass) with that part of flesh it would have been sufficient, but they made it difficult so it was made difficult upon them.
↪️ And from the benefits in this hadith is not causing harm to the Muslims and being merciful with them, for bringing harm and hardship upon the people is from the woes for the one that does that, Allaah said:
(لِيَحْمِلُوٓا۟ أَوْزَارَهُمْ كَامِلَةً يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَٰمَةِ)
what translates to what means:
(They will bear their own burdens completely on the day of judgement) the verse.
No causing harm to himself or to others
So whoever causes something to be made impermissible, it becomes impermissible for him and other than him,
(From the best of a person’s Islam is leaving that which doesn’t concern him)
↪️ As for asking what is nesseccary then there is no harm in asking due to the statement of Allaah :
(فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ)
which translate to which means:
(So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know).
The asking is in that which a person is ignorant of and confused about.
🔹 Conclusion The chaptering of Ibn Jarood is precise from the angle of fiqh when he mentioned the Hadith of (Mention the name of Allaah over it and eat it) he mentioned this hadith after.
➡️ Asking about what one is confused about is knowledge, asking due to stubbornness is an infringement
➡️ And the intention of ‘crime’ here: is sin
