The Truth About Camel Bone Belief in Islam

Debunking the Myth of Camel Bone as a Magical Cure

The Truth Behind the Magical Cure of Camel Bone

Due to a lack of knowledge about the true religion, various types of misguidance exist among people, from ideologies and thoughts to beliefs and faith. Allah has bestowed upon us a clear and bright religion, but the majority of Muslims are caught up in weak faith, false ideas, magical practices, and polytheistic or unbelieving actions. This is why today, people fear not Allah, but rather the jinn and their offspring. Out of this fear, deceptive practitioners and cunning sorcerers take advantage, robbing people of their wealth and leading their faith to ruin. A steadfast believer believes only in Allah as their Creator and Master, worships Him, and always fears Him alone.

Among people, many with weak faith and practice are afraid of jinn and devils, and in order to protect their homes and families from magical and satanic harm, they keep various items in their homes, hoping that these will shield them from evil. Examples include knives, wood, amulets, talismans, tablets, and other objects.

One such belief is that keeping a camel bone in the house will protect the house and its inhabitants from magical effects. Besides magic, it is also claimed to protect against termites and poisonous insects, but the main idea is that the camel bone will protect from the influence of jinn.

Now, we will try to understand how this belief gained popularity and what the reality behind it is. Some of today’s Sufis and misguided individuals claim that the scholars, jurists, and great figures of the past have said through their experiences that camel bones nullify the effects of magic. However, to the best of my knowledge, no such statement exists in the works of the scholars. People use the names of these scholars to deceive the public.

The truth of the matter lies with spiritual practitioners, who make money from this process and exploit people’s wealth in an unlawful manner. Various spiritual practices have been created around the camel bone, and large amounts of money are charged for these so-called treatments. I have read accounts on the internet where it is mentioned that in countries where camel bones are not available, people import them from other countries for use in their homes. A’udhu billah.

It is important to understand whether there is any religious practice involving camel bones or whether the belief that keeping a camel bone in the house prevents the effects of magic is valid.

The answer is that there is no such practice in Islam related to camel bones. Those who suggest that reciting certain verses for a specified number of days or performing specific prayers will remove the effects of magic from a home using camel bones are deceitful and fraudulent. Often, they even conduct special spiritual “rites” (Chilla) for this purpose, which is also an invalid practice. Please avoid these actions for yourself and warn others as well.

Furthermore, Islam has never instructed us that keeping a camel bone in the house brings any benefit or removes the effects of jinn. Anyone claiming such a thing is lying. And if someone says it has been proven by experience, then it must be pointed out that experience is not evidence in Islam; only the Qur’an and Hadith are valid evidence.

Believing that camel bones bring benefit from a religious perspective is akin to shirk, as only Allah is the owner of benefit and harm.
Translation: And do not call upon besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you. If you do so, then indeed you will be among the wrongdoers.

From a religious perspective, there is also a flaw in this belief because the bones of animals are the food of jinn, and Islam has prohibited us from using bones for cleaning after using the restroom. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
لَا تَسْتَنْجُوا بِالرَّوْثِ وَلاَ بِالْعِظَامِ فَإِنَّهُ زَادُ إِخْوَانِكُم مِّنَ الْجِنِّ (صحيح الترمذي:18)
Translation: Do not use dung or bones for cleaning after relieving yourselves, for they are the food of your brothers from the jinn.

If bones are the food of jinn, they should not be kept in homes as protective items. Instead, when animals are slaughtered for food, their bones should be buried in the ground. This means that if someone keeps bones in their home for protection, more jinn will come to their house to eat the bones. This is precisely what sorcerers do—they intentionally send jinn to your home to make you fall into their traps, eventually leading you to waste your wealth and faith by seeking their help.

In fact, sorcerers also perform magic on bones, and in this way, they can easily perform magic on your home. Please understand the tricks of these deceivers and avoid falling into their traps.

In Sahih Bukhari (5686), it is mentioned that the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed some people from the tribes of Uraynah and ‘Akl to drink camel milk and urine for medicinal purposes. Based on this, it can be said that camel milk and urine can be used in cases of illness. However, there is no mention of camel bones being a remedy for jinn or magic.

In a hadith about the evil eye, it is stated that even camels are affected by the evil eye and may die because of it. Would their bones then protect us?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
العينُ تُدْخِلُ الرَّجُلَ القَبْرَ، وتُدْخِلُ الجملَ القِدْرَ (صحيح الجامع:4144)
Translation: The evil eye causes a person to enter the grave and a camel to enter the pot.
This means that the evil eye can lead to death for both humans and camels, and camels may even be slaughtered due to its effects.

In conclusion, keeping a camel bone in the house does not remove the effects of jinn, and in fact, it may cause more harm and even be a sin from a religious perspective. Therefore, no Muslim should engage in this practice. If you wish to protect yourself from jinn and Satan, be diligent in performing the five daily prayers, reciting the prescribed supplications in the morning, evening, and before sleeping, maintaining cleanliness, filling your home with prayer and recitation, and keeping your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah. Satan will not come near you, and your home will not be harmed.

Do you not know that every person has a companion Satan? When Satan is always with us, we can only protect ourselves by adhering to the worship of Allah and His religion. If we turn away from Allah’s religion, Satan will overpower us and ruin our lives and homes. May Allah protect us from the evil of Satan. Ameen.
