The Islamic Ruling on Selling Human Hair
Question: Is there evidence prohibiting the sale of combed-out hair?
Answer: Scholars unanimously agree that selling human body parts, including hair, is prohibited. This is because the human body is not owned by the individual but is a trust from Allah. The Quran states:
“And indeed We have honoured the Children of Adam...” (Al-Isra: 70)
This honor forbids any form of commercialization of body parts, including hair, eyes, kidneys, or blood. Hence, selling combed-out hair is impermissible.
