Is It Permissible for Children to Portray Angels in a Play?

Can Children Act as Angels in a Play? Understanding the Islamic Ruling

Question: If children want to perform a play in a program, can one of the children be given the role of an angel?

Answer: The matter of angels is one of belief in the unseen. None of us have seen an angel; we only know what is mentioned about them in the Quran and Hadith. It is not permissible to attribute anything to angels without evidence. Portraying a character is an even more sensitive matter, so it is not permissible for a Muslim to depict the role of an angel in any program, as this pertains to faith and belief.

Moreover, having children perform plays is not a proper practice because the purpose of most plays is to make people laugh. This often involves absurd actions, ridiculous, false, and inappropriate statements, which are contrary to Islam. Islam prohibits us from lying to make people laugh, engaging in absurd actions, and speaking nonsense.
