Islamic Ruling on Menstrual Cup in Deceased Women: A Guide to Funeral Preparations

Removing Menstrual Cups in Deceased Women: A Necessary Step in Islamic Funeral Rites

Question: Nowadays, young girls and women use a new medical invention, the menstrual cup, instead of sanitary pads during menstruation. If a deceased woman is wearing this cup, what is the ruling in this case?

Answer: Upon the death of a menstruating woman, it is necessary to perform the ritual washing (ghusl) before burial. This involves washing the entire body and removing any impurities. Therefore, if the deceased is wearing a sanitary pad, it should be removed. Similarly, if she is using a menstrual cup, it should also be removed because it contains impure blood. This ensures that the area is thoroughly cleaned. Even the stomach is pressed to clean out any remaining impurities to prevent any discharge later.
