Is It Permissible to Use Allah’s Names, Throne, and Attributes in Supplications?
Question: Can we invoke Allah’s grandeur, majesty, power, His names, and His Throne and Chair as a means when making supplications?
Answer: There are three types of permissible means (wasilah) in supplication:
1. Using Allah’s beautiful names.
2. Using righteous deeds.
3. Asking a living person to make dua (supplication) for you.
Apart from these three permissible means, no other means are allowed. We can use Allah’s beautiful names and attributes in our supplications because this is a permissible means. However, we should not use Allah’s Throne and Chair as a means, meaning it is not permissible to say, “We ask You by Your Throne and Your Chair.” Instead, we can say, “O Allah! I ask You by Your grace and mercy.”
