Travel Prayers on a Ship: Understanding Qasr and Complete Prayers
Question: My father works as a crew member on a ship. When the ship is moving, he performs Qasr (shortened prayers). Now the ship is docked for fifteen days. Should he perform Qasr or complete prayers? He cannot leave the ship and is very busy with work.
Answer: When a person is traveling, whether by airplane or ship, they should perform Qasr prayers during the journey. However, if they stop at a place and intend to stay for more than four days, they should perform complete prayers. In the scenario mentioned, since the ship is docked for fifteen days, your father should perform complete prayers from the beginning of his stay, as this is considered a state of residence.
