When Should You Perform Aqeeqah for a Newborn? Understanding the Timing Based on Birth and Islamic Calendar
Question: My grandson was born after Maghrib on Friday. The seventh day falls on Friday. Should we perform the Aqeeqah before or after Maghrib, and is there any specific calculation for this, or can we perform the Aqeeqah at any time on the seventh day?
Answer: Since the child was born after Maghrib on Friday, it means the child was born on Saturday because the Islamic date changes after sunset. Therefore, Saturday is the first day for the newborn, and Friday is the seventh day. You can perform the Aqeeqah on Friday at any time, day or night, as there is no specific time restriction. It is important to understand that the day of Friday starts after sunset on Thursday and continues until sunset on Friday.
