Is It Permissible to Use Magical Pearls for Teething in Islam?

Using Magical Pearls for Teething: Islamic Ruling on Magic and Shirk

Question: How is it to put a magical pearl on a child for teething?

Answer: Just as Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, created the child, He will also fulfill all the child’s physical needs. Therefore, there is no need to worry about the newborn’s teething; it will happen naturally as part of Allah’s system.

As for putting a magical pearl on the newborn for teething, it is better and preferable to avoid it. The term “Tilism” refers to magic, and magic is considered disbelief (kufr) in Islam. Even though we know that this pearl is not actually magical, the association with magic is enough reason for us to avoid it.

Additionally, Islam prohibits hanging or tying any object with the belief that it will bring benefit, as this can lead to shirk (associating partners with Allah). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever hangs something has committed shirk.”
