Understanding the Practice of Raising Hands in Friday Sermon Supplications
Question: When the Imam delivers the Friday sermon and then makes a supplication, people raise their hands as if making a supplication. Is this practice correct?
Answer: When the Imam makes a supplication at the end of the sermon, there is no need to raise hands at that moment. However, there is no harm if the congregation quietly says “Ameen.” You may notice that the Imam himself does not raise his hands while making the supplication because it is not necessary at that time. Similarly, the congregation should not raise their hands.
