Islamic Etiquettes for a Peaceful Sleep: Purity, Position, and Prayer

From the etiquettes of going to sleep, we should:

Be in a state of purity: “If you come to your bed, then perform Wudoo’.”

Sleep on our right side:
“…. Then lie down on your right side.”

Place the right hand under the right cheek:

“When he ﷺ went to sleep, he placed his right hand under his right cheek.”

Dust the bed:

“When one of you goes to bed, let him dust the bed because he does not know what comes into it before or after him.”

Adhkār Before Sleeping:

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : من قرأ بالآيتين من آخر سورة البقرة ‏في ليلة كفتاه.

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Whoever recites the last two verses of Sūrah al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.”

Ibn al-Qayyim Raḥimahullāh said: “Suffice him for any evil that may harm him.”

 ● [الوابل الصيب ١٣٢]

‘Ā`ishah رضي الله عنها reported: “The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ would get ready for sleep, he would blow into his hands, recite the two chapters of refuge (Sūrah al-Falaq and Sūrah an-Nās), and he would wipe his hands over his body.”
