Is Attending a Quran Memorization Celebration Permissible in Islam?

The Islamic Ruling on Celebrating Quran Memorization: A Guide to Avoiding Sin

Question: If someone invites us to a celebration for their son completing the memorization of the Quran, is it appropriate to attend, or is it a practice that could lead to sin?

Answer: This is a custom and an incorrect one. Do not accept such invitations and advise those people that if they want to encourage their son, they should give him a gift and encourage him personally. Do not waste your wealth by holding a public event. If Allah has given you wealth, give charity to the needy and poor. This will fulfill the needs of the poor and also earn you rewards. Do not waste your wealth on unnecessary celebrations that do not bring any reward.
