Dealing with Theft: Solutions and Guidance for Families After a Jewelry Theft

Steps to Take When Jewelry is Stolen: Legal and Spiritual Guidance

Question: A gold jewelry set has been stolen from the house, causing a lot of distress. Please suggest a solution, a prayer, or a supplication to find the thief, as innocent employees and family members are suspecting each other.

Answer: If the jewelry has been stolen, the household should file a complaint with the police and seek their help to catch the thief. This is the legal procedure. There is no specific supplication or prayer to find the thief. If there were such a supplication, there would be no thefts in the world, no one would steal from anyone’s house, and no thief would escape after stealing. There would be no need for a police department, nor for cutting off the thief’s hand. Those who suggest various supplications to catch thieves are liars and should never be trusted. It is also not permissible to seek the help of jinn or devils for theft.

Anyone who suspects or accuses their employee or a family member without evidence will be punished by Allah, as this is a sin related to the rights of others. Therefore, one should refrain from suspecting or accusing anyone without evidence.

To catch the thief, one should follow the legal procedure and also wisely question the people present at the scene, advising them about the consequences of this sin in the hereafter. If someone among them has committed the theft, they might benefit from the advice. Pray to Allah to recover the lost items, as Allah is the one who accepts prayers. If, despite all efforts, the items are not found, be patient and consider them as charity. Insha’Allah, the lost items will be considered as charity. However, if one engages in baseless accusations and wrongful actions, it will only lead to further loss and sin.
