A Husband’s Selfless Act of Love and Chivalry

Ibn al-Jawzi narrated in Al-Muntadhim:
A woman came to Qadi al-Ray and claimed her husband owed her five hundred dinars as mahr, stating he hadn’t given it to her.
The husband denied this, so the woman brought witnesses. The witnesses asked to see her face to verify that she was indeed his wife.
The husband said, “Do not do this, she is telling the truth.”
He admitted to his wife’s claim so that no other man would see her face.
Upon witnessing her husband’s protective jealousy, the woman forgave her mahr.
