Menstruation and Missed Fajr Prayer: What to Do?

Menstruation and Missed Fajr Prayer: Islamic Guidance

In the Name of Allāh, the Entirely Gracious, the Exclusively Merciful

📩 Question:

The questioner asks: A woman prayed the Witr prayer and then sat waiting for the Fajr prayer. After the Fajr call to prayer, she experienced menstruation and was unable to perform the Fajr prayer. What should she do?

📝 Answer:

She is not required to make up the prayer because menstruation started before she had the chance to pray. She must refrain from praying and fasting as commanded by Allah (جل وعلا). There is no sin or negligence on her part. Even if she delayed the prayer a bit, such as postponing the Dhuhr prayer to the middle of its time due to her becoming busy in her house with preparing food for example and then menstruation began, she is still not required to make up the prayer. It is permissible to pray at the beginning, middle, or end of the time, and there was no negligence, so there is no need for compensation or sin.
