Exploring Financial Boundaries: A Wife’s Rights to Personal Expenses
Question: A sister’s husband has money but does not give her any for personal expenses. He spends on the house and the children but doesn’t provide for her personal needs like clothes, shoes, or if she wants to take an online course such as Tajweed or Tafsir, or if she wants to give something to someone. In such a case, can she secretly take money from his pocket?
Answer: If the husband is fulfilling the wife’s basic needs, such as food, clothing, and shelter, then the wife does not have the right to secretly take his money. As for additional items like extra clothes, shoes, or taking courses, these are considered extra needs. For such things, she should seek his permission. If he refuses to provide for these extra needs, then she should be patient. However, if she has her own money, she may use it as she pleases without any issues.
