Reciting Durood Sharif and Dhikr after Prayer: A Hadith Analysis

Understanding the Authenticity of Reciting Durood Sharif and Dhikr after Prayer

Question: Just as we recite Durood Sharif ten times after prayer, should we also recite this dhikr ten times: “La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulk wa lahul hamd, yuhyi wa yumit wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir“?

Answer: There is no mention in the hadith of reciting Durood Sharif ten times after prayer. However, there is a hadith that mentions reciting Durood Sharif ten times in the morning and ten times in the evening as part of the morning and evening adhkar. The hadith states: “Whoever sends blessings upon me ten times in the morning and ten times in the evening will receive my intercession on the Day of Judgment.” This is a narration from Tabarani, and Sheikh Albani has classified it as weak in Silsilah Da’ifah (5788).

Therefore, this hadith is not actionable, and we will not act upon it. As for the other dhikr you mentioned, it is proven to be recited ten times after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers. So, you should recite this dhikr ten times after the obligatory Fajr and Maghrib prayers.
