Conveying the Joy of Pregnancy: Is a Creative Announcement Permissible in Islam?
Conveying the news of pregnancy to parents through a gift.
Question: I want to know if it’s allowed to tell parents you are expecting a baby by way of a cake with a message. This is mainly due to it being an easy way to say it without any awkwardness as one may be nervous to share the news?

As for this question, if the method she wishes to use to inform her parents of her pregnancy does not involve imitation of disbelievers or immoral individuals, and her intention is merely to avoid awkwardness or such matters, then this is permissible. There is no harm in conveying the news through a gift, with the news placed within the gift itself. There is no issue with this unless the method is derived from the practices of disbelievers or people of sin and immorality, in which case it should be avoided. However, if the goal is to avoid awkwardness, there is no harm in doing so.
Sheikh Muḥammad Al-’Ansi ḥafidhahullāh:
May Allāh bless you. In reality there should be no awkwardness whatsoever. There is nothing wrong, as long as it (the marriage) took place openly and publicly; a marriage that people are aware of, and this is her husband. What else is expected when a woman marries? There is no issue in such a matter. Yes, a woman may feel embarrassed if she is menstruating. Some women may feel embarrassed about that. However, if she becomes pregnant, this is something desirable. In our culture, when a woman becomes pregnant, she shares the good news with her family, and they rejoice. It is considered a good and positive thing that the woman is pregnant, and praise be to Allāh, everyone celebrates. So, there is no embarrassment. Some women may differ in this regard; they may feel embarrassed, so she can convey the news in any way. The matter is easy.
