Islamic Guidelines on Men’s Adornment: Diamonds, Pearls, and More
Question: Can men wear diamonds and pearls, such as on sherwanis, as is common today?
Answer: Men adorning their sherwanis with diamonds and pearls falls under imitating women, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade men from imitating women and vice versa. In fact, such people are cursed.
It was narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed men who imitate women and women who imitate men (Sahih al-Bukhari 5885).
Thus, men should avoid adopting any adornment that is characteristic of women. However, if there is a minimal amount, such as a ring or a button that does not reflect femininity, there is no harm. Additionally, men are forbidden from wearing gold or anything made from gold, though silver rings are permissible for men.
