Can Muslims Use Perfumes with Alcohol? Understanding Islamic Perspectives

Using Alcohol-Based Perfumes in Islam: A Comprehensive Guide

Question: Can we use perfumes that contain alcohol?

Answer: Islam has prohibited intoxicating substances for consumption, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“Every intoxicant is Khamr (wine) and every intoxicant is forbidden” (Sahih Muslim: 2003).

Therefore, we should not consume any intoxicating substances. However, regarding perfumes, there is no harm in using them because the alcohol in perfumes is a chemical type, present in small amounts, and we do not consume it as food. Instead, we use it on our clothes as a fragrance, and it evaporates after a while. Thus, the alcohol in perfumes does not harm us, nor does it make the clothes impure. Therefore, you can pray in clothes that have perfume on them without any issue.
