Hair Transplantation and Wigs in Islam: Treatment vs. Fashion
Question: It is impermissible to wear a wig, but what is the ruling on hair transplantation or adding new hair?
Answer: The basic ruling regarding hair is that attaching hair, such as wearing a wig or attaching artificial hair, is not permissible. However, if someone has lost their hair, they may use a wig or undergo hair transplantation to the extent necessary to cover the defect. There is no issue in this, as it is not for fashion or out of desire but rather for treatment purposes. However, if someone wears a wig or attaches hair merely for fashion or desire, then it is not permissible.
