Did Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) Eat Beef? Exploring Authentic Hadith

Clarifying the Consumption of Beef by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

Question: Is it true that Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did not eat beef?

Answer: Beef is halal for us, and there is no issue with consuming it. It is incorrect to say that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did not eat beef. In fact, an authentic hadith shows that the Prophet (ﷺ) did eat beef. Here are two hadiths from Sahih Muslim for reference:

(1) A’isha (Radeyallahu Anha) narrated: “The Prophet (ﷺ) was presented with beef, and it was said, ‘This is what was given as charity to Barira.’ The Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘It is charity for her and a gift for us.’” (Sahih Muslim: 1075)

(2) Jabir bin Abdullah (Radeyallahu Anhu) narrated: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) bought a camel from me for two ‘uqiyas and a dirham or two dirhams. As he reached Sirar (a village near Medina), he commanded a cow to be slaughtered and it was slaughtered, and they ate of that, and as he (the Holy Prophet) reached Medina he ordered me to go to the mosque and offer two rak’ahs of prayer, and he measured for me the price of the camel and even made an excess payment to me.
