Chapter: What has come concerning seeking rain through the stars, and the statement of Allaah:

"And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?"

[Al-Waaqi’ah 56:82]

And from Abi Maalik Al-Ash’ari may Allaah be pleased with him that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “There are four things from my ummah which are from Jaahiliyyah, they will not leave them:

  • Boasting about ones lineage
  • Cursing other people’s lineage
  • Seeking rain through the stars
  • Wailing over the deceased.”
And he said ﷺ: "The wailer, if she doesn't repent before her death, the Day of Judgment will be established and upon her will be a gown made of tar and a vest made of scabies."

[Reported by Muslim]

And they both have from Zaid bin Khaalid may Allaah be pleased with him: “The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ prayed for us the morning prayer in Al-Hudaibiyyah after it rained in the night, so when he dispersed he turned to the people and said: “Do you all know what your Lord said? They said: “Allaah and His Messenger know best.” He said: “He said: “Some of my slaves became believers in me and some disbelieved this morning, so as for those who said: “It rained on us due to the grace of Allaah and His mercy, then that is the believer in me and disbeliever in the star, and as for those who said: “It rained on us due to such and such a star, then that is the disbeliever in me and believer in the star.”

And they both have from the Hadith of Ibn ‘Abbaas with the meaning, and in it: “Some of them said, indeed such and such star has been truthful, so Allaah revealed these verses

"Then I swear by the setting of the stars, And indeed, it is an oath – if you could know – [most] great. Indeed, it is a noble Quran. In a Register well-protected; None touch it except the purified [i.e., the angels]. [It is] a revelation from the Lord of the world's. Then is it to this statement that you are indifference. And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?"

[Al-Waaqi’ah 56:75-82]
