From the commentary on the Book of Tawheed by Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad bin Abdil-Wahhaab may Allaah have mercy on him, 26th-28th, Lesson,

By our Shaykh, the ‘Allāmah, the Trustworthy Advisor, Abu ‘Abdirrahmān Yahya bin ‘Ali Al-Hajūri – may Allāh preserve him – on the 27th, Jumaadah Al-Aakhirah, 1443H

Chapter: The statement of Allaah:

"Verily! You guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided."

[Al-Qasas: 56]

And in the two Sahihs from Ibn Al-Musayyib from his father, he said:

When Abu Taalib was in his death bed, the Prophet ﷺ came to him while ‘Abdullaah bin Abi Umayyah and Abu Jahl were with him. So the Prophet ﷺ said: “O uncle! Say: ‘Laa ilaaha illaa Allaah’, a statement I will defend you with it before Allaah.” Abu Jahl and ‘Abdullaah bin Umayyah said: “Will you turn away from the religion of ‘Abdul-Muttalib?” So the Prophet ﷺ repeated it to him, so they repeated, so his last statement he said is that he is upon the religion of ‘Abdul-Muttalib, and refused to say ‘Laa ilaaha illaa Allaah’.” So the Prophet ﷺ said: “I will keep on asking for Allaah’s Forgiveness for you so long as I am not prohibited to do so.” Then Allaah revealed:

"It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allah's Forgiveness for the Mushrikeen even though they be of kin."

[At-Taubah: 113]

And Allaah revealed concerning Abu Taalib:

"Verily! You guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He knows best those who are the guided."

[Al-Qasas: 56]

In it are Masaa’il (topics):

The First: Tafseer of

"Verily! You guide not whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills."

[Al-Qasas: 56]

The Second: His statement:

"It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allah's Forgiveness for the Mushrikeen even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire."

[At-Taubah: 113]

The Third: And it’s the big Mas’alah: Tafseer of his statement: “Say: ‘Laa ilaaha illaa Allaah’ contrary to what some people who claim knowledge are upon.

The Fourth: That Abu Jahl and those with him know the intent of the Prophet ﷺ when he says to a man “Say: ‘Laa ilaaha illaa Allaah’, so may Allaah revile the one whom Abu Jahl is more knowledgeable than him in the foundation of Islaam.

The Fifth: His earnestness ﷺ and excessiveness in (wanting) Islaam for his uncle.

The Sixth: Refutation on the one who claim the Islaam of ‘Abdul-Muttalib and his predecessors.
