Understanding the Significance of Quran Covers and Disposing of Washing Water
Question: After washing the cover of the Holy Quran, where should the water be disposed of?
Answer: The first point to note is that there is no need for a cover (juzdan) on the Quran because the Quran is a book to be recited frequently. If it is kept covered, it becomes a hassle to open it and read. In the Indo-Pak region, people used to wrap the Quran in a cover and place it in a high place so that dust wouldn’t gather on it because it was rarely taken down and seldom recited.
In reality, there is no need for a cover on the Quran. It is better to remove it. The Quran is already bound between two covers with excellent printing, so a cover is unnecessary.
As for washing the cover, the water can be disposed of anywhere, such as where the water from your bathroom flows or where you wash clothes. This water has no special virtue, nor is it sacred, so it does not need to be disposed of in a specific place.
