Attending Feasts and Celebrations: What is Permissible in Islam?

Guidance on Participating in Social Gatherings and Celebrations

Question: Our relatives build a new house and host a feast, and they hold feasts on every occasion, such as when a girl reaches puberty. Can we accept such invitations?

Answer: If Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, grants someone a blessing and they want to celebrate by inviting people without any customs or traditions, there is no harm in hosting or attending such a feast. For example, if someone is blessed with a new house and wants to thank Allah by inviting people to celebrate, we can participate in such a feast. However, if the feast involves any acts of innovation (Bid’ah), such as music, dancing, or inappropriate customs, then we should not attend. Otherwise, there is no harm in attending a simple, straightforward feast.

As for feasts and gatherings that involve innovations, such as Niyaz, Fatiha, anniversaries, birthdays, or celebrations for a child reaching puberty, these are incorrect practices, and we should not participate in such invitations.
