A Respected Companion: Abū ‘Ubaydah [May Allāh be pleased with him] is one of the ten companions promised Paradise. Known for his exceptional character, humility, and leadership, Abū ‘Ubaydah was a close and trusted companion of the Prophet ﷺ, embodying the virtues of faith, courage, and integrity.

Early Conversion to Islām: Abū ‘Ubaydah was among the earliest converts to Islam. He accepted Islām through the Da’wah of Abū Bakr al-Siddīq [May Allāh be pleased with him]. 

A Role Model of Humility and Integrity: Throughout his life, Abū ‘Ubaydah was known for his humility and unwavering integrity. The Prophet ﷺ once described him as “The trustworthy one of this Ummah”. 

Courage in Battle: Abū ‘Ubaydah played a significant role in several key battles alongside the Prophet ﷺ. His bravery was particularly evident in the Battle of Badr, where he fought valiantly to protect the Muslim army. Despite the personal challenge of facing his own father, who was fighting on the side of the Quraysh, Abū ‘Ubaydah remained steadfast in his duty to defend Islām, ultimately slaying his father in battle. 

Leadership in the Battle of Uhud: During the Battle of Uhud, Abū ‘Ubaydah’s courage and leadership were once again on full display. When the Prophet ﷺ was injured, Abū ‘Ubaydah rushed to his side, removing two metal links from the Prophet’s ﷺ cheek with his own teeth, losing two of his teeth in the process. This selfless act exemplified his deep love for the Prophet ﷺ and his willingness to endure personal pain to ensure the safety of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ.

The Conquest of Syria: Abū ‘Ubaydah was also a key military leader during the Islamic conquests under the caliphate of Abū Bakr and ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb. He was appointed as the commander of the Muslim armies in Syria and led them to several significant victories. His leadership was characterized by both strategic brilliance and compassionate governance, earning him the respect of both his soldiers and the people of the conquered lands.

A Legacy of Trustworthiness and Faith: Abū ‘Ubaydah’s life serves as a timeless example of trustworthiness, leadership, and devotion to Allāh.
